Obituary for Annabelle Nelson

Annabelle Nelson, 89, of Elk Horn, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center. The daughter of Rasmus and Mary (Mardesen) Nissen, she was born October 11, 1912 south of Elk Horn, Iowa where she was reared and graduated from the Elk Horn High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Arley Nelson on June 1, 1932 in Maryville, Missouri. Following marriage, they farmed east of Elk Horn and in 1984, they received The Century Farm Award from the Secretary of Agriculture. They retired from farming that year and moved to Elk Horn.She is survived by her two daughters, Marcia Westphalen and husband Chuck of Atlantic and Shannon Ferraro and husband Robert of Waterbury, Connecticut; two granddaughters, Lisa Martino and husband Michael of New Canaan, Connecticut and Gina Griffin and husband Patrick of Walcott, Iowa; two grandsons, Ronald Ferrero of Waterbury, Connecticut and Brian Westphalen of Elk Horn; three great-grandchildren, Rocky Griffin, Jake Griffin and Sophia Martino; one sister, Mildred Olsen of Elk Horn; two sisters in-law, Della Anderson of Elk Horn and Maxine Nelson of Washington State.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arley; three sisters, Rena Paulson, Florence Petersen and Frankie Namanny; and four brothers, Clarence, Harvey, Melvin and Mick Nissen.Funeral InformationServices for Annabelle will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at 1:30 P.M. in the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa with Pastor Michael Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.
