FOLMER PETER NELSEN
Folmer "Pete" Nelsen, 90, longtime resident of rural Anita, passed away at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa, Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the age of 90 years.
Pete was born to Nels Christian and Katherine (Jensen) Nelsen on March 16, 1922, near Brayton, Iowa. He attended school in Audubon County, graduating from the Exira High School in 1940. Pete was united in marriage to Dorothea "Dorothy" Phyllis Rassmussen on April 8, 1943, in Maryville, MO. Following marriage they farmed in the Anita area for several years. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. Pete was well known in the community, and he always had the coffee pot on.
He is survived by his children, Richard (Glennda) Nelsen of Anita, IA, Margaret Ann (Mick) Heath of Norwalk, IA, and Robert (Cheryl) Nelsen of Lawrence, KS; sisters, Mary Ann (Dean) Stegen of Strawberry Point, IA, and Virginia Crozier of Adair, IA; brother-in-law, Howard Schroeder of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Holly (Gary) Hermann, April McAfee and friend, Jonathan Hansen, Adam (Jennifer) Nelsen, Sara (Chad) Cooper, Emily (Jason) Evers, Amanda Heath, Christy (Cory) McCarville-Schueths and Mitch Nelsen; great grandchildren, Hannah and Stella Hermann, Alexandrea, Cole, Paige and Peter McAfee, Luke, Laci and Levi Cooper, Kemper and Penn Evers, Christian and Amelia Chesnut, and many friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea; son, Ray Nelsen; daughter-in-law, Marcia Nelsen; grandson, Matthew Dee Heath; sisters, Abbie Cozad, Edna Cosgrove, Mabel Franklin, Norma Winther and Beulah Waldon; brothers, George Nelsen, Morris Nelsen and Jens Christian Nelsen.
