Elmer Nelsen

Elmer Wilfred Nelson, 87, a longtime resident of the Atlantic area, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at his home.The son of Peter and Julia (Christensen) Nelson, he was born June 10, 1914 near Elk Horn. He was united in marriage to Marguerite Hensley on December 5th, 1936 and they farmed Southeast of Atlantic. Marguerite passed away in 1954. Elmer later married Alice Myers on February 12, 1955 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, he was employed with Challenge Feed until retiring around 1989.Elmer is survived by his step-daughters, Della June (Dolly) Schirm and her husband, Leonard, of Falls Church, Virginia and Marjorie R. (Marge) Brehmer of Waterloo; his step-sons, Lawrence (Larry) Meyers and his wife, Jean, of Austin, Texas and Gaylord D. (Whitey) Meyers and his wife, Pat, of Wemberly, Texas; 13 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great grandchldren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marguerite; his second wife, Alice; five brothers, Harold, Arlie, Alton and Ernie Olsen and Norman Nelsen; and one step-grandson, Gary Meyers. Elmer is survived by his stepdaughters, Della June (Dolly) Shirm and her husband, Leonard of Falls Church, Virginia and Marjorie R. (Marge) Brehmer of Waterloo; two-step sons, Lawrence (Larry) Meyers and his wife, Jean of Austin, Texas and Gaylord D. (Whitney) Meyers and his wife, Pat of Wemberley, Texas; 13 stepgrandchildren; and 14 step great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Marguerite; and his second wife, Alice; five brothers, Harold Arlie, Alton and Ernie Olson and Norman Nelson; and one step grandson, Gary Myers.Funeral InformationServices for Elmer were held Saturday, August 18, 2001, at 2:00PM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Reverend Allen G. Hellwege of the Zion Lutheran Church officiating.Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
