Hyla Nash, 97, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, June 14, 2021, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Hyla Mae (Babbitt) Nash was born November 6, 1923, northeast of Marne, Iowa, to Hazel (Franklin) and Glenn Babbitt. She attended country school and graduated from Walnut High School in 1941 as Salutatorian. She taught school in Brighton Township. Hyla was a member of Monroe Chapel all her life. In 1942 she married Carl Nash. They farmed several years and moved to Atlantic in 1964, where she worked for 38 years in the grocery business.

Hyla enjoyed spending time with her family, especially playing a good game of “Hand and Foot.” She always had a project, whether it was quilting, crocheting or the challenge of a good jigsaw puzzle. Hyla was never one to not be doing something.

She and Carl had five children, Mary (Larry) Reimer of Atlantic, Joan Siebels of Minden, Nancy (Dick) Strittmatter of Atlantic, Rick (Phyllis) Nash of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Kim (Todd) Warth of Elizabeth, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, Devin Reimer, Shelli Nelson, Trisha Johnson, Tami Hinsley, Brent and Brad Strittmatter, Richelle and Chris Nash, Kelsey Mayka and Ben Warth; she was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren plus three step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren and two more on the way. Other survivors include brother, Dell Babbitt and brother-in-law, Jerry Nash; sisters-in-law, Maye Babbitt and Maxine Nash; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding in her in death were her husband; her parents; her parents-in-law; brothers and sisters, Hubert, Darlene, Doris, Clara, Bill, Bud, Velma, Neva, Dean; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Oden, Ross, Esther, Lorene, Elroy, Bobbie Joe and Ed.

Open visitation will be available at Roland Funeral Home all day Thursday, June 17, beginning at 8 a.m., followed by family greeting friends and relatives from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A private family funeral service will be held at the Monroe Chapel, north of Walnut, Iowa, with burial in the Monroe Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Monroe Chapel in memory of Hyla.
