JEANNE IONE (TIBBEN) NANCARROW

Jeanne I. Nancarrow, 92, passed away April 21, 2012 at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
Jeanne Ione Tibben Nancarrow was born on February 2, 1920 to Edward Herbert Tibben and Ella Edna Luke Tibben on their farm seven miles east of Exira, Iowa. She attended country school in Aububon Township No. 2 through 8th grade and graduated with the Exira High School Class of 1937.
Jeanne worked at Hansen Drug Store in Exira the year after graduation and then was the first to work at the new Variety Store with Maggie Eagen. She also taught country school a short time in Guthrie County Iowa.
She was married to Eldred Leroy Nancarrow on October 14, 1939 at the Presbyterian Manse in Atlantic, Iowa. They moved to Denver, Colorado where their first daughter, Elizabeth Kay, was born and died in 1940. She and her husband then lived in several towns in Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, and Colorado moving frequently for Eldred’s job as a welder. In 1942 their daughter, Linda, was born in Denver. Jeanne and Linda returned to Exira to live with her parents while Eldred served in the war. When Eldred returned, they again lived in several towns in the west. In Casper, Wyoming their son, Kent Leroy, was born in 1948 and passed away at age four months. In 1954 they were living in Omaha where Linda contracted polio and was hospitalized for an extended period of time. A daughter, Debra Jeanne was born in 1955 and passed away at age six months. They moved to Fargo, North Dakota in 1961 where they lived for 28 years before moving to Atlantic, Iowa in 1989.
Jeanne was a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo and earned 2000 hours of volunteer work. She was a Brownie Scout Leader for a time, and taught Sunday School for many years. She was active in Women’s Fellowship wherever they lived; and was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. She was a member of Eastern Star in Fargo, North Dakota and Exira, Iowa
She enjoyed sewing, reading, and working crossword puzzles and spent most of her time taking care of her family. She was devoted to her daughter Linda, helping her with whatever she needed to allow her to live a full life. Eldred suffered a stroke in 1981 and passed away in 1991. Linda passed away in 2005 and Jeanne moved into Heritage House. Jeanne was special to all who had the pleasure to know her.
Jeanne is survived by a sister-in-law, Alene Nancorrow, of Exira, IA; nieces and nephews, Stephen (Susan) Nancarrow of Exira, IA, Thomas Nancarrow of Indianola, IA, Karen (Ronald) Beckman of Omaha, NE, Judy (David) Meyer of Council Bluffs, IA, Merridy (Neil) Horstmann, Randall (Marcia) Rabe of Anita, IA, Philip (Norma) Rabe of Anita, IA, Michael (Maggie) Rabe of Papillion, NE and their families.
