Obituary for Christine Miller

CHRISTINE E. MILLERChristine Miller, 90, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Allen House Assisted Living Facility in Atlantic where she had resided for the past two years. Christine was born February 4, 1918, the daughter of Peder C. and Rosa C. (Paulsen) Pedersen of rural Lewis. She took Normal School training while at Lewis High School and taught in rural schools for four years. She married Lewis area farmer, Clarence "Bud&" Miller April 13, 1940, and to this union was born a daughter Marilyn. In 1944 Christine returned to teaching and took many college courses until receiving a B.A. in education from Drake University. She taught for a total of 46 years at Washington No. 4 School, and at Lewis, Walnut and Griswold schools. Christine was a quiet, lady-like individual, a dedicated teacher, and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and ballroom dancing. Past activities included the Retired Teacher"s Association, Federated Club, SS Peter and Paul Quilting Group and the Atlantic Does. Christine is survived by her daughter Marilyn Miller and Marilyn"s fiancé Dennis Butler, both of Atlantic; her beloved grandson, David Brake; of San Francisco, CA and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; five brothers: Hans, Emmert, William, Elmer and Albert Pedersen, and, four sisters: Elsie Pedersen, Agnes Trede, Lillian Headlee, and, Beulah Reed.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation until a Scriptural Wake Service, with Father Daniel Siepker, of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, officiating at 6:30 P.M. and Christine"s family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday evening October 15. Pastor Nadine Aydt of the United Congregational Methodist Church of Lewis will lend assistance to the family. A Funeral Mass will be in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. The interment will be in the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Atlantic. Memorials may be given to the Educational Endowment Fund of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
