Michael "Mike" Lee Fletcher

Michael “Mike” Lee Fletcher, 59, of Anita, Iowa, died Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

He was born on October 16, 1963, in Greenfield, Iowa, the son of Danny Gene and Shelia Marie (Bissell) Fletcher.  During his childhood he liked hunting with his brothers and spending time at Grandpa and Grandma Bissell’s acreage on the edge of Massena being a farm boy.  This time also meant picking up a few bad habits from Grandpa that involved what boys can do on the farm near trees but maybe shouldn’t in the middle of town.  Mike graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1983. 

In 1988, he was united in marriage to Theresa Dungan in Atlantic, Iowa.  The couple was blessed with one son, Travis. 

Throughout his life Mike lived in Atlantic, Clarinda, Bedford, back to Atlantic in 2019 and most recently Anita for the last 8 months.  He worked alongside his dad, Danny and brother, Steve at the family owned Big A Auto Parts and for the last four years he had been turning wrenches at Olsen Fuel Supply at the Anita Sinclair Shop.  Mike did anything from routine maintenance to working on heavy duty equipment.  He was willing to do what was needed to help others whether it be picking up cars, changing the oil, and taking it back or dropping whatever he was doing to help a stranded motorist in town or on the interstate; Mike was on speed dial for most of the Troopers.

Mike wasn’t one to sit still; he was always working and when he wasn’t you might find him casting a line at a local farm pond.  He didn’t take no for an answer and was always one step ahead.   As a dad he left quite an impact, Travis saying, “You couldn’t ask for better, my dad was my rock.”  Mike was Travis’ go to for his Mud Bogging Truck, always there to help, looked forward to the times he could ride along and also the one to remind you to ALWAYS GO FULL POTATO!

One of his greatest joys was being a grandpa to Sadie, who had him wrapped around her finger.  He recently said, “I hope I am here long enough to spoil another grandbaby and send it back home.”

Mike is survived by his son, Travis (Lexington) Fletcher of Griswold; grandchildren, Sadie Fletcher and Baby Fletcher arriving in November; mother, Shelia Fletcher of Atlantic; brother, Stephen (Sheri) Fletcher of Atlantic; nephew and niece, Curtis (Kadi) Fletcher of Lincoln, NE and Brooke (Frederik) Lundsgaard of Manchester, England; great-nieces, Freja Lundsgaard and Kaia Fletcher; former spouse and friend, Theresa Fletcher and many extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Danny Fletcher; brother, Joshua Fletcher; and grandparents, Howard and Pearl Fletcher and Earl and Irene Bissell.

A Celebration of Life Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 28^th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.  At a later date a private family burial will be held at the Massena Cemetery.
