Gail Francis Meyer

Gail Francis Meyer, age 88, a long time Cass County resident, passed away peacefully at his residence in Atlantic, Iowa, Tuesday evening, September 18, 2012.
Gail Francis Meyer was born on April 3, 1924 to Albert John and Iva Drucilla Brosam Meyer near Cumberland, Iowa. On September 15, 1939, Gail accepted the Lord as his personal savior. He graduated with the Cumberland High School Class of 1941.
On April 4, 1943, Gail was united in marriage to Wanda Marie Conrad. He joined the U. S. Army. Gail served from 1943 to 1946, with the 82nd Airborne Division and was in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. Before his discharge, he received the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He worked at Meyer Service Station and was a rural mail carrier in Cumberland, IA. In 1966, Gail was employed by the Atlantic Hospital where he continued to work until his retirement, in 1981, from the Cass County Memorial Hospital.
His is survived by two sons, David (Holly) Meyer of Cumberland and Daniel (Beth) Meyer of Gilbert, IA and one daughter, Denise Follmann of Vinton, Iowa; grandchildren, Clint Meyer of Underwood, IA, Curt (Alison) Meyer of Omaha, NE, Mindan (Adam) Lytle of Gilbert, IA, Mikade Meyer of Ames, IA, Dani Meyer of Marshalltown, IA, Bret Meyer of Des Moines, IA, Josh Follmann of Des Moines, IA, Laura Follmann of Osceola, IA and Clay Follmann of Vinton, IA; great grandchildren, Shelby, Tyzha, Journey and Zane; one sister, Shirley Ann (Jimmy) Mauk of Fort Worth, TX; four nieces, Lydia Mauk and Valerie (Richard) Averett of Fort Worth, TX, Pamela (Dennis) Thompson of Richardson, TX, Patrice (Ron) Davidson of Dallas, TX; and second wife Genevieve.
Gail was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda; brother Gerald, and brother Donald, who died as an infant.
There will be a military graveside service, by the VFW of Anita, on Saturday, September 22, at 11 o’clock at the St. John's Cemetery at Lyman, IA. Bill Meyer, of Lyman Gospel Chapel, will officiate.
