Donalda Meyer, 71, of Cumberland, Iowa, died Monday, March 29, 2021, at her home.
Donalda was born to Harold and Marie VandeKrol on June 4, 1949, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She spent all of her early years growing up on a farm outside of Sully, Iowa, with her four siblings. She attended Lynnville/Sully community schools. As a young woman, she gave her life to the Lord, accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. While at a youth Bible conference in Des Moines, she met Bill Meyer whom she later married on March 22, 1968. They rededicated their marriage on their 50th anniversary.
After their wedding, Donalda and Bill settled in Cass County, Iowa, raising a family of six children and tending the farm in the Cumberland area. Donalda diligently kept the men in the field fed and she took care of errands and details that they needed. She acted as “The Hub” of all information and was most helpful in organizing family affairs. Donalda home schooled all their children through their high school graduations.
Donalda’s love for the Lord overflowed to her family, church family and friends. She cared for everyone and hospitality was her gift.
She enjoyed traveling with her family on vacations in their camper following each of their graduations. In June and July of 2015, after discovering that there was a village of her same name, she and Bill drove to Donalda, Alberta, Canada, where she became somewhat of an unexpected celebrity during their annual celebrations. In 2019, she spent some time with Bill, Roger and Darlene on a Route 66 trip. It had been on her bucket list, so she thoroughly enjoyed her time.
Donalda liked to occasionally plant flowers around the home when there was time, but her highest joy was caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and others, ministering to all in need.
Donalda is survived by her husband, William Meyer of Cumberland and her children, Sheila (Chris) Bancroft and family, Stephanie Bancroft and Courtney (Will) Spragg; Greg Meyer and family, Angela, Lydia, Anthony and Esther; Brian (Jessie) Meyer and family, Emma, Kennedy, Gavin and Katelyn; Jeff (Summer) Meyer and family, Coltyn, Legacy, Autumn, Shantelle, Oceana and Journee; Jennifer Meyer; and Justin (Kathy) Meyer. She is also survived by her siblings, Darrell (Judy) VandeKrol, Darlene (Roger) Westercamp, Delores (Gary) Keith; brother-in-law, Pat (Sara) Bennett; nieces; nephews; and many other dear relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law; and sister, Deyonna Bennett, and many other relatives and friends.
