James Michael Mennes
James Michael Mennes, 66, passed away Monday, August 13, 2001, at his home. The son of Clayed Al and Ruby Jean Vokes Mennes, James was born September 7, 1934 in Bismarck, North Dakota and was a long-time resident of Atlantic. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1952. Following high school he entered the U.S. Navy and following his discharge, he moved to Atlantic where he worked for Henningsen Construction as a mechanic. James was united in marriage to Frances Kay Suplee on August 25, 1960 in Atlantic, Iowa. Around 1969, they moved to Harden, Montana and to Billings in 1982. He was a member of the Atlantic Eagles club and helped out by cleaning the club on a weekly basis.James is survived by two daughters, Ruby Suko and her husband, Irvin, of Atlantic, Arlene Suko and her husband, Richard, of Billings, Montana; a son, Shawn Bighair; a foster daughter, Jackie Bighair; four grandchildren, Jamie Suko, Melissa Suko, Jennifer Suko, Christopher Suko; three great-grandchildren; four foster great-grandchildren; one sister Meta Cantrell of Knoxville, Tennessee; three brothers, Clifford Mennes of Maxwell, Iowa, Tom Mennes and his wife, Becky, of Ankeny, Iowa, Carl Mennes and his wife, Doris, of Atlantic, Iowa and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fran; one brother, Leonard Mennes; and one sister Helen Chapman.Funeral InformationServices for James were held Friday, August 17, 2001, at 10:30AM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Reverend Ron Barnett of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
