BEVERLY “BEV” MENDENHALL

Bev Mendenhall of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA at age 65. Beverly Ann was born September 17, 1946 to Alfred Hansen and Bernice Pauline Gibson Molgaard in Riverside, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles. She attended school in Exira, IA, graduating with the class of 1964. She later received a LPN degree from Iowa Western Community College, an ADN degree from DMACC, and her BSN from Drake University. Bev worked for the Cass County Health System as the Director of Quality Assurance, Infection Control and Employee Health for 35 years. She was planning to retire on September 1, 2012.

On December 26, 1973, Bev was united in marriage to Roger George Mendenhall in Brayton, IA. During her life, she lived in California, Audubon County, IA, Ankeny, IA, Papillion, NE and in Atlantic since 1978. She had been chairman for Relay For Life, a member of BPW and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. She was interested in all kinds of crafts - needlepoint, scrapbooking and jewelry, and was an avid reader. Amongst Bev's favorite things, were butterflies and ladybugs. In 2008, she became Iowa Infection Control Practitioner of the year and received many other awards.

Vacations she enjoyed most were a Caribbean cruise in 2002, and trips to Wisconsin Dells, Mt Rushmore in 2007 and New Orleans in 1989. The family especially looked forward to her beef stew on Christmas Eve every year. She will be remembered as dedicated, generous, loving, loyal, kind and cheerful to those who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Roger of Atlantic; son, Rick (Tisha) of Atlantic; daughter, Paula Christian of Baxter, IA; grandson, Daniel and granddaughter, Kayla; brother, Ron (Laurie) Molgaard of Elizabethtown, KY; sisters, Tricia Ebert of Grinnell, IA, Nadine (Mark) Dobbe of Ames, IA and Juanita Holaday and companion Mike Erickson of Elk Horn, IA; mother-in-law, Alice Mendenhall of Atlantic; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Otis) Carr of Papillion, NE and Dorothy (Jim) Kelger of Atlantic; brother-in-law, Bob (Carol) Mendenhall of Sigourney, IA; eighteen nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Bernice Molgaard, father-in-law, Jimmy Mendenhall, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Connie Mendenhall and a niece, Jennifer Moser.

There will be Open Visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Monday, July 9, from 8:00 to 5:00 with a Family Visitation at 5:00 until 7:00 Monday evening. Services for Beverly will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic on Tuesday morning, July 10, at 10:00, with Pastor Dennis Meyer and Pastor Grant Van Lishout officiating. The Committal Service will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
