Charles McKibbin

Charles Earl McKibbin, 101, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.The son of John Franklin and Harriet Ellen (Mills) McKibbon, Earl was born November 21, 1900 south of Hamlin, Iowa. He grew up in Audubon County And Attended Greene and Oakfield country schools. He was united in marriage to Lizzie Amilia Christiansen June 24, 1922 in Creston, Iowa. Following marriage they farmed and raised Pinto Paint horses two miles south of Exira.Surviving are his daughter, Alice Layland, of Atlantic; three grandchildren Diane Berkley and her husband, Tom, of Exira, Deane Layland of Overland Park, Kansas, Dan Layland of Atlantic; six great-grandchildren, Angie Pedersen of Savage, Minnesota, Chris Pedersen and his wife, Rosemary, of West Des Moines, Shannon Layland and fiancée, Katja Schenke, of Jena, Germany, April D"Orvilliers and her husband, Matt, of Lawrence, Kansas, Kaisha McDermott of Atlantic, and Hannah Layland of Corning; one great-great-grandson, Bennett Pedersen of West Des Moines, Iowa; two step great-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Leona Christiansen, of Atlantic; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Harriet McKibbin; his wife Lizzie; brothers and sisters in-law, Frank and Laura McKibbin, Ernie and Marie McKibbin and Virgil and Gladys McKibbin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mable McKibbin, Vera and Jack Hinkle, and Myrtle and Martin Madsen.Funeral InformationServices for Earl will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa at 1:30 PM with Pastor Terry Schoenfeld of the Evangelical Free Church in Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
