Obituary for Margaret "Maggie" McGuire

MARGARET A. "MAGGIE" McGUIRE

Margaret A. "Maggie" McGuire, 74, of Rural Wiota, Iowa, passed away Tuesday evening, January 14, 2014, at the Atlantic Nursing & Rehab Center.

The daughter of Claus Henry & Evelyn Jean Switzer Fitschen, she was born June 1, 1939, in Atlantic, Iowa. She grew up in the Wiota area and graduated from the Wiota High School in 1957. Maggie attended a year at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO and went on to get her BSN in 1971, in Spokane, WA.

Maggie was a native of rural SW Iowa whose life was colored by impressions of the beautiful world which surrounded her. She retired as an RN, active in trauma nursing for over 24 years and had nursing articles published. She was a song writer, a vocalist and keyboard player, landscaper and gardener, and an artist of multiple oil paintings. She has one fiction novel published & entitled “Wind Stalker,” the story of an Irish Setter who miraculously found his way home to Iowa following a plane crash in the Oregon Mountains. Maggie dearly loved her two wonderful companion dogs, Golden Retrievers - Buddy & Hud, who shared the quiet life in farm country. The family recalls that she never stopped doing something new and different and perfected everything she started.

Poetry was a large influence in her life with poems written and published since the 1960’s. Most of all, she was an ordained minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, continuing in an active preaching role. Her mission in life was spreading the Word of Jesus. She took several missionary trips, using her nursing skills to minister in both the US and foreign countries. Maggie was the founder of “His Acres Foundation.”

Maggie is survived by her step daughter, Sandra Lee (Roy) Johnson of Talent, OR; a granddaughter, Barbara McNerney of Medford, OR; great-granddaughter, Dr. Tabitha Barron of Medford, OR; nieces, Donna (Mike) Brahms of Griswold, Cindy (Tim) Anderson of Madrid, and Mary (Dennis) Murphy of Atlantic; nephew, Richard (Verna) Zimmerman of Atlantic; great nephews, Shawn (Melodee) Brahms of Lawton, OK, Steve Brahms and Mitch (Abbie) Brahms both of Cumberland; and other relatives.
