Lenora Mary McGovern
Lenora Mary McGovern, 87, a lifelong resident of Cass County, passed away Sunday morning, September 1, 2002 at Heritage House in Atlantic.The daughter of Thomas and Florence (Underwood) McNierney, Lenora was born January 21, 1915 in Pymosa Township, Cass County, Iowa where she grew up andgraduated from Atlantic High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to John McGovern on August 29, 1940 in Atlantic and following marriage, they took over the operation of the family farms. Lenora was a partner in farming with her husband, as well as a bookkeeper, for many years and a full-time mother. The couple moved to Atlantic in the mid-60s and she moved to Heritage House in January of 2000.Surviving are two sons, Paul McGovern and his wife, Ellen Kay, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Robert McGovern and his wife, LaVada, of Bloomington, Minnesota; one daughter, Mary Ann Moorman and her husband, Ken, of Atlantic; six grandchildren, Cindy Kay McGovern of Charlotte, North Carolina, LaChel Hird and her husband, Mark, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Jarett McGovern and his wife, Carol, of Burnsville, Minnesota, Ann Koeninguer and her husband, Joel, of Parkville, Missouri, Susan Kelly and her husband, Brian, of Hollywood, Florida, and Sally McCarty and her husband, Gregg, of Des Moines; six great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Hird, Autumn McGovern, Colton Koeniguer, Cameron Koeniguer, Moira Kelly and Gage McCarty; one brother, Thomas McNierney and his wife, Audra, of Longmont, Colorado; one sister-in-law, Shirley McNierney, of Laramie, Wyoming; and numerous nephews and nieces.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John McGovern, January 5, 2000; two sisters, Marjorie Scherer and Kathryn Jennison; and one brother, John McNierney.Roland Funeral Service -- Atlantic, IowaFuneral InformationA funeral mass will be held for Lenora on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at the S.S.
