Kathleen McFadden

Kathleen McFadden, 91, life long resident of Atlantic, passed away at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, October 17, 2009.Kathleen Georgia was born south of Atlantic in Bear Grove Township, the daughter of Floyd L. and Eva (Abhau) McFadden on March 1, 1918. She attended country school at Bear Grove #2 and resided in Bear Grove until moving to Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center eight years ago.

Although she never had children of her own, she will be remembered by her family and friends as being like a mother, grandmother, baby sitter and devoted aunt. She enjoyed doing lots of embroidering and crafts and found pleasure in the fulfillment of her gardening. She was a lover of flowers, liked to travel and to watch the birds and wild life. Kathleen's heart was evidenced by her volunteer work at the nursing home while a resident and the care she took of her parents until they passed.

Kathleen is survived by three sisters, Opal Frisbie of Adair, Iowa, Donna Peterson of Alta, Iowa and Carolyn Sipes of Osceola, Nebraska; a brother Wayne and wife Shirley McFadden of Atlantic, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Helen McFadden, of Elkhorn, Iowa; a brother-in-law Fred Lavett of Seaside, California; 25 nieces and nephews; 45 great nieces and nephews; and 33 great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Genevieve Lavett; brother Bruce McFadden; brothers-in-law, Roy Frisbie, Wayne Petersen and Kenneth Sipes; and four nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21, at 1:30 P.M. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Lloyd "Bud" Lindeman will officiate. The committal service will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.

Kathleen's family extends an invitation for family and friends to join them for refreshments, following the committal service, back at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be designated for The Cass County Memorial Hospital Dialysis Unit in lieu of flowers.
