Wray E. McDermott
Wray McDermott, longtime resident of rural Atlantic, Iowa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at the age of 74.Wray was born to James Bell and Mildred Matilda (Laartz) McDermott on February 13, 1932 east of Wiota, Iowa on the home farm.He graduated from the Wiota High School in 1950 and continued farming with his father. On August 25, 1957, he married Sharon Ann Davis at the Fletcher Chapel Church south of Atlantic. Wray was a veteran of the US Army in the Korean War. He was a lifetime farmer, cattle feeder, and cow/calf producer. Wray was an avid 4-H promoter and worker.He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Atlantic; two daughters, Debbie Sonntag and husband Glen of Atlantic and Amy Elmquist and husband Neil of Audubon; three sons, Mike McDermott and wife Melanie of Brayton, IA, Dan McDermott and wife Lisa of Freeport, IL and Rex McDermott and wife Beth of Atlantic; eighteen grandchildren; one brother, James (Mac) McDermott and wife Mary Jane of Atlantic; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Wray is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred and two brothers, Robert and Jack.Services for Wray will be on Saturday, June 3, at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic with visitation on Friday evening 5:00 to 7:30 P.M. at the Cass County Community Building.Funeral InformationWray Edward McDermott Born February 13, 1932 ENTERED INTO RESTWednesday, May 31, 2006in an accident near his home.
