Obituary for Arnold G. McCurdy

Arnold McCurdy was born on the home farm on May 1, 1928 to George and Alma McCurdy near Cumberland, Iowa. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2002. He fought a hard battle with cancer for the past few months and died at home on May 20, 2007 at the age of 79 years and 19 days. He attended country school through the eighth grade in Cumberland. Arnold worked for many farmers thrashing grain in Iowa and Minnesota. While working in Minnesota, he met his loving wife to be at the Wheaton County Fair. They traveled and wrote to each other for three years. On February 15, 1948 he wed Stella Katherine Eggen. The couple had two sons Leonard and Esley while living in Cumberland where Arnold farmed. They moved to Missouri where he worked as a carpenter for two years. Later, the family moved to Wheaton, Minnesota where Arnold worked in a tire company for three years. They moved back to southwest Iowa where Arnold farmed and helped raise bulls in the Atlantic area for eleven years. Three more children were born into the family; Steven, Norma, and Carol. They then moved to Audubon in 1965 and Arnold worked for Sidelman Construction until he retired in 1990. His hobby, after retirement, was to do salvage recycling. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, farming, and spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember their Papa loved circus peanuts and plain M&€™s.He is survived by his wife Stella McCurdy; children Leonard (Debi) McCurdy of Atlantic, Steven (Joyce) McCurdy of Coon Rapids, Norma McCurdy of Jefferson, Carol Wolff of Audubon and daughter-in-law Lisa German (wife of Esley) of Raymond, Kansas; eleven grandchildren Tracey, Troy, Carrie, Nichole, Jennifer, Shawn, Steven Jr., Tina, Tiffany, Tonya and Travis; 24 great-grandchildren Kaley, Kyla, Kendra, Shawn, Jolyssa, Alexandria, Tabitha, Jonathan, Ethan, Myranda Taylor, Brodie John, Jacob, Kristofer, Austin, Robert, David, Dakota, Alexis, Aaron, Britney, Andrew, Carmen, Danielle and Aliyah; two brothers, Gilbert McCurdy of Cumberland and Wayne (Carol) McCurdy of Weatherford, Texas; his adoring puppy Peanuts and many other family and friends.
