Iona McCoy

Iona McCoy, 86, of Wiota and the Colonial Manor in Anita died at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa on Monday, May 15, 2006.Iona was born, the daughter of Fredrick and Egidia Sorensen, on March 23, 1920 in Roerbeck, Iowa. She grew up in Audubon County. Following Iona's marriage to Wilbur McCoy, on September 29, 1937, the couple lived in Harlan, Bellevue, Nebraska, Atlantic, Anita and Wiota. Her interests were sewing, crocheting, bingo and her grandchildren. Iona was known as "Mom" to all her children's friends, and gave of herself fully to her friends and family.Iona is survived by her children, Beverly South of Bellevue, NE, Terry McCoy of Atlantic, Dwight McCoy of Oroville, CA, Karen Rose of Lewis; Debbra Meyer of Bellevue, NE, and Timothy McCoy of Atlantic; her sisters, Edna (Jayne) Petersen of Exira and Audrey Andresen and her husband Virgil, of Guthrie Center, IA; her sister-in-laws, Clara Sorensen of California and Lorraine Sorensen of Exira and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wilbur, in 1983; three brothers, Floyd Sorensen, Marion Sorensen and Wayne Sorensen There will be a visitation for Iona on Wednesday, May 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. The funeral will also be held at Rolands', on Thursday, May 18 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Annette Ruhs Kruse, of the Wiota United Methodist Church, will officiate.
