Shirley Matthews

Shirley A. Matthews, 79, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Atlantic Specialty Care.

Shirley Ann was born on May 10, 1936, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Lorraine (Scherdin) Matthews. She attended school in Atlantic, graduating in 1954. Following high school she worked in housekeeping at local hotels, including the Atlantic Hotel.

She loved to play BINGO and cards and enjoyed a good book on CD. When she made Atlantic Specialty Care her home, Shirley delighted to use her housekeeping skills to give back to her community there, as long as she was able. She appreciated the care she was given and all of the staff was very special to her. Shirley looked forward to visits with family, especially the kids.

Shirley is survived by her brother, Don (Patty) Matthews of Grinnell, Iowa; niece and nephews, Jana (Payton) Byers, Steven (Darla) Matthews and Todd Matthews; great-nieces and nephews, Samie (Don) Price, Lexie (Andrew) Henderson, Kylie (Nathan) Vu, Kasey (John) Bennett, Eric (Tessa) Matthews, Troy (Audrey) Matthews, Cody Byers and Koy Matthews; and great-great-nieces and nephew, Addison Vu, Nora Vu and Vyn Bennett.

Open visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Roland's followed by graveside services at 2:00 p.m. at the Atlantic Cemetery, with Reverend Suzanne Gorhau of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating.
