Lorraine Matthews

Lorraine Matthews, 91, a resident of 300 Elm Street, Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.The daughter of Clarence and Amelia (Jacobsen) Scherdin, Lorraine was born October 15, 1911 in Atlantic, where she grew up and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Donald Matthews on July 18, 1935 in Rockport, Missouri. The couple resided in Atlantic where Lorraine was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. Lorraine was also a member of the VFW, Royal Neighbors, the American Legion, Post #43, and she always enjoyed making crafts.Surviving is a son Don Matthews and his wife Patty of Beatrice, Nebraska; and a daughter Shirley Matthews of Atlantic; three grandchildren, Steven Matthews and his wife Darla of Omaha, Jan Byers and her husband Payton of Grinnell, Iowa and Todd Matthews and his wife Amy of Omaha, Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren, Alexis, Eric, Samantha, Troy, Cody, Kasey, Kylie, and Koy; and a sister-in-law Marge Sherdin of Atlantic.Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald "Bus&"; one sister Beulah; one brother Raymond; and a brother-in-law Gail Odem.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Lorraine will be held on Friday, December 27, 2002, at 10:30 A.M. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Rev. Don Seeger of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
