Genevieve Mathisen

Genevieve Mathisen, 84, of Atlantic, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.She was born in Atlantic on April 11, 1916, the daughter of John and Emma (Keith) Rotherham. Following the death of her mother in 1923, the family was raised by their father and their Aunt Julia Rotherham. She was raised in the First United Methodist Church and graduated from the Atlantic High School. On the 16th of August 1942, she married James "Mike&" Mathisen. They made their home in the Marne and Atlantic area.Surviving are three sons: Jim Mathisen and his wife, Amy, Terry Mathisen and his wife, Jane, all of Atlantic, and Jon Mathisen of Carroll; two daughters, Cindy Booton of Griswold and Denise McDaniel and her husband, Paul, of Atlantic; six grandchildren, Jenifer Tietz and her husband, Lenny of Jamestown, Indiana, Michael Mathisen, Clint Mathisen, Emma and Erin Mathisen and James McDaniel, all of Atlantic; two great-grandchildren, Laura and Nicholas Andersen of Jamestown, Indiana; three sisters, Alice Hansen of Atlantic, Faye Busse of Council Bluffs and Mary McClellan of Omaha, Nebraska; and a number of nieces and nephews.Proceeding her in death were her parents; her husband Mike Mathisen in 1969; her aunt Julia Rotherham; three sisters, Leona Mae in infancy, Julia Hansen of Sioux City; Margaret Murphy of Mesa, Arizona, formally of Atlantic.Funeral InformationA memorial service was held Saturday, January 13, 2001, at 2:00 PM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Pastor Ron Barnett of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.
