  Curtis C. Masteller, 83, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 07, 2014 at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
  
   
   Curtis Campbell Masteller was born on November 10, 1930,  in Atlantic, Iowa, to Curtis William and Elsie Ellen (Campbell) Masteller.  He attended country school in Grove Township and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1949.  Curtis engaged in farming for two years, before serving three years in the US Air Force, one year of which was in Korea.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to farming southeast of Atlantic, where they currently reside.
   
   
   On September 28, 1952, he married Rosalie Schaaf, and they would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year.  They were the proud parents of five boys.   He and Rosie enjoyed playing cards with the same group of friends for nearly 60 years.
   
   
   In 1971, he began working as a carpenter and enjoyed this 2nd career until his retirement.  He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church, where he served as church deacon  Curtis served as a 4-H leader for many years and was a member of the Elks Lodge.  He faithfully followed the many activities of his boys. In his spare time he loved outdoor sports including hunting, fishing and golf.  Curtis was an avid fan of Iowa State University teams, NFL football and NASCAR racing.  He had especially fond memories of taking all five boys to a NASCAR race in Texas.
   
   
   Curtis is survived by his wife, Rosalie; sons, Mark of Ames, Brian of Wiota, Bruce (Coni) of Lindsay, NE, Steve (Andrea) of Clive and Jeff (Kelli) of Burleson, TX; beloved grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Joshua, Mikaela, Alyssa, Carter, Elly, Kara, Maria, Carson, Campbell and Camryn; great -granddaughter Presley;  sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Calvin Knop; and sister, Barbara Wollenhaupt.
   
   
   He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Herman and Zeta Schaaf; brothers-in-law, Gerald Wollenhaupt, Merlin Schaaf and Galen Schaaf and sister-in-law, Vera Schaaf.
   
   
   A family burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Atlantic Cemetery.
   
   
   A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday August 11, 2014, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.
   
   A luncheon will follow the Service.
   
   
   There will be viewing at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Sunday, August 10 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 P.M
   
   
   Memorials may be made to the family for designation at a later date.
