Obituary for
Helen Maxine Marxen (Bornholdt)
HELEN M. MARXEN
Helen M. Marxen, 92, a long-time Atlantic resident, passed away late Monday, March 2, 2015, at her home.
Helen Maxine was born in southwest Iowa, on June 1, 1922, the daughter of Orville and Margaret (Brink) Bornholdt. She grew up on a farm, and at the age of three she was diagnosed with Polio. She attended school in many communities throughout southwest Iowa, but graduated from Atlantic High School in 1941. Following graduation she received her teaching certificate and taught school in Marne and the Atlantic area.
On March 2, 1946, she married John Henry "Bud" Marxen, Jr. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. Helen passed away on their 69th wedding anniversary.
She worked at Brink Flower & Gift Co. for several years. Helen would do anything for her family, so of course when daycare was needed for grandchildren she was right there to help. She also babysat for various other families in the community. Helen's top priority was caring for her family who she loved very much. They will remember all her delicious cooking, but the homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and noodles were a favorite.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Leanne Jo Silence, Patty Marxen, and Jane Marie (Glenn) Livingston all of Atlantic; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Dewey) Hess; brothers, Robert (Judy) Bornholdt, Max (Joan) Bornholdt, and Donald Bornholdt; sisters-in-law, Mickey Bornholdt, Jean Bornholdt, and Janet Bornholdt; along with numerous other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John "Bud" Marxen in 2001; great-grandson, Corbin; sister, Janis Andersen; brothers, Carl, Arlin, Everett and Ross Bornholdt and sister-in-law, Marlis Bornholdt.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Eells of the Atlantic Gospel Chapel, officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Roland Funeral Home.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for Helen's family and her arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
