Minerva Martinez
Minerva Martinez, age 92, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law south of Atlantic. Minerva was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, March 4, 1915 the daughter of Juan Pedro and Jacinta (Roman) Martinez. She graduated from high school, went on to a Polytechnic College and then to the University of Michigan for Social Worker Training. For many years she taught in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. When she was 70, Minerva also received her Masters in Library Science from the University of Albany in New York. She married Carlos Roman Alvarado in 1955. She was a member of a Presbyterian Church in Puerto Rico, and in recent years, attended the Evangelical Free Church in Atlantic, Iowa. One of her passions was collecting dolls and she delighted in showing them to all who visited. Minerva was a people person and enjoyed being with friends and family. Although she spent many years in Iowa she continued to love and to visit her homeland, Puerto Rico. We will remember her best for her love of children, and passion for her family.
