Larry Martens

Larry Martens, 63, a longtime resident of Atlantic, passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital Saturday, February 26, 2005. Larry was born March 20, 1941, the son of Louie William and Vera Sally (Hinz) Martens, in Manning. He moved to Atlantic in 1955. Larry married Elaine LaJean Bailey in Atlantic on August 18, 1962. Larry worked as a Production Supervisor at Glacier Daido America until he retired September of 2001. He enjoyed raising and showing horses with his family and friends and was a member of the Iowa Paint Horse Association. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge #445. Larry is survived by his wife, Elaine; his son, Rod Martens and his wife, Shelly and grandchildren, Maryn and Grace Martens of Livermore, CA; his daughter, Tanya Martens of Des Moines; his sister, Mary Nelsen and her husband, Joe of Anita; his brothers, Garry Martens, and his wife, Lynda of Atlantic, Terry Martens and his wife, Linda of Lee"s Summit, MO, and Kerry Martens, and his wife, Tammie of Springfield, MO; his father-in-law, Clyde Bailey of Griswold; his sister-in-law, Marcene and her husband, Tom Arn of Atlantic, and several nieces and nephews.Larry is preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Rick Arn and his mother-in-law, Mabel Bailey. A horse drawn hearse will take part in the procession to a 10:00 A.M. public graveside at the Atlantic Cemetery Wednesday, March 2. The memorial service will be held at the Saint Paul Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M. after the committal. Pastor Dennis Meyer will officiate. Friends are invited to a luncheon at the church fellowship hall immediately following the memorial service.
