Beulah Marshall

Beulah Lucille Marshall, 95, a resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2006, at Heritage House.She was born in Wiota, Iowa on March 28, 1910, the daughter of Alex and Ida (Schmidt) McGaffin.Beulah moved to Lewis, Iowa with her parents, in 1923 where she lived until moving to Heritage House in 1999. She married J. Russell Marshall on June 18, 1929. To this union 4 children were born.Beulah will be fondly remembered as a loving helpmate to her husband throughout their marriage. She was also devoted to her parents and sisters. As a mother and grandmother, she was loving, caring and a tolerant mentor. Church and civic work were another important part of her life.Beulah is survived by her children: Carolyn Ratashak of Des Moines, Iowa, Marilyn Howard and her husband, Dale of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Richard F. Marshall and his wife, Jo, of Griswold, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Patricia Marshall Burke of Des Moines, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Bernice Burnside of Lewis, IA, and Betty Sanny of Lewis, Iowa; several brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Melvin and Alfred Potter also shared this family love, and for awhile, the family residence.Beulah was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Russell Lee Marshall; a daughter-in-law, Janet (Ferrel) Marshall; son-in-law, Max Ratashak; two grandchildren, Debbie and Rusty Ratashak; two great grandchildren, Mollie and Vickie Wilson; a sister Belva (McGaffin) Smiley; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.Public visitation will be held at the Roland Funeral Home, Sunday, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and a private family viewing 7:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. The funeral will be at the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis, Iowa, Monday, January 9, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Sharon Guffy- Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis.
