Mark L. Hansen

Mark L. Hansen, 65, of Atlantic, IA, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Mark Lee was born on March 11, 1960, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Harold Herbert and Dolores “Dee” Rae (Thomsen) Hansen. He grew up on a farm south of Atlantic and this is where his love of the outdoors started. Mark graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1978.

He lived in Atlantic most of his life except for a few years in the Council Bluffs and Omaha area. Mark worked various jobs which included farming, plumbing, driving truck and working for a landscape block company.

Mark was happiest when he was fishing, trapping, and hunting, anything adventurous really! He had a bit of a no fear personality from cliff jumping to fast cars; he lived for the thrill. Mark’s time at home was occupied by reading, primarily about history and mysteries, with John Grisham being one of his favorite authors.

Mark is survived by his brothers, Steve Hansen of Oakland and Todd (Teresa Smith) Hansen of Atlantic; nieces and nephews, Robin (Dan) Tweedie, Eric (Heidi) Hansen, Alison (Mike) Miles, Amanda (Andrew) Oloff, John (Wendy) Hansen, Clint (Danielle) Hansen, Andrea Hansen and Travis (Samantha) Hansen; and many great-nieces and nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, H. Herb and Dolores “Dee” Hansen; brother, Jeff Hansen; and sisters-in-law, Lynda Rhodes and Ann Vorthmann.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 30th at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. The family invites you to join them for lunch and fellowship immediately following the service.
