Obituary for Jack Dwayne Manz

Jack Dwayne Manz, 88, of Atlantic, IA, formerly of 501 East 5th Street, passed away Monday, August 26th, at Heritage House.

Jack was born in Shelby, Iowa on September 6, 1924, to Walter and Elizabeth Isabel Jensen Manz. He grew up in Shelby County and attended school there.

On June 15, 1947, he married Bertha Ann (Giese) Manz in the Marne United Methodist Church. They farmed South of Marne for many years. They enjoyed all the animals on the farm, especially Dolly, an orphaned Shetland Pony who was bottle-fed and stabled in their family kitchen for a time. They enjoyed spending time with their daughters and their families. They never missed a County Fair, liked to attend auctions and especially loved potlucks. Bertha passed away on June 4, 2002, just a few days short of their 55th anniversary.

Jack was known as a very friendly guy, who could visit with anyone. In his later years, he especially enjoyed all the activities and fellowship at the Heritage House. He loved playing cards with the many friends he made there.

He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church.

Jack is survived by two daughters, Pearl Elaine (James) Hulsebus of Rochester, MN, Mary Beth (Jerry) Jensen of Atlantic and a son-in-law, Richard Viether of Marne, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin) Eggert, Melinda (Brent) Smith, Justin (Minelle) Hulsebus, Joel Hulsebus, Toby Jensen, Jay Jensen, Jason (Teri) Jensen; ten great grandchildren, Kassie, Kory and Aiden Eggert, Taylor Smith, Jackson Hulsebus, and Geena, Kyle, Tyler, Jordan & Jennifer Jensen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; his daughter, Gail Marie Viether; his parents, Walter & Elizabeth; his brother, Gene; and two sisters, Laurine Zastrow and Lois Cozad.
