Obituary for Bertha Ann Manz

Bertha Ann Manz, 74, a resident of 501 E. State St, Atlantic, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the St. Joseph Hospital.The daughter of Carl Peter and Gladys Marie (Razee) Giese, she was born February 18, 1928, in Shelby County and grew up north of Avoca, Iowa. during her high school years she resided with Frank and Recca Doll. Following high school, she started working at Rex Pharmacy and was later employed by the Cass County Memorial Hospital as an aide. Bertha was united in marriage to Jack Dwayne Manz, June 15, 1947, in the Marne United Methodist Church. They farmed south of Atlantic and southwest of Marne. Upon retirement in 1993, they moved into their present home in Atlantic. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. She was also active with Helpful Homemakers Club and was a 4-H leader. Out on the farm they had a huge garden that she and Jack spent many hours tending together. She loved to sew.Bertha is survived by her husband, Jack Dwayne; three daughters, Gail Marie Viether and her husband, Richard, of Marne, Pearl Elaine Hulsebus and her husband, James, of Rochester, Minnesota and Mary Beth Jensen and her husband, Jerry of Atlantic; seven grandchildren, Melissa Viether, Melinda Viether and her fiance, Bret Smith, Justin Hulsebus, Joel Hulsebus, Jay Jensen and Jason Jensen and his wife, Teri, and Toby Jensen; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Smith and Geena Jensen; one sister, Phyllis Schnackel and her husband, Albert, of Atlantic; one brother, Gary Giese of Phoenix, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Bertha will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Don Seeger officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
