Obituary for
Larry Mallon
Larry Mallon, 87, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Lawrence Mallon was born on October 30, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Lawrence Rufus and Georgia Grace (Pardee) Mallon. Larry enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country during WWII, and was honorably discharged in October of 1947.
On January 30, 1948, he married Marvele A. Samson in Atlantic. They made Atlantic their home, and Larry worked for Atlantic Municipal Utilities for 40 years. He retired on September 15, 1990.
Larry was a trumpet player in a local dance band, The Melodies, for many years. He continued his joy of playing the trumpet into his 80’s. In his spare time he tinkered with radio control airplanes and electronics in his garage. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, and wasn’t shy about joining in on the fun!
Larry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marvele of Atlantic, IA; his children, Steven (Peggy) Mallon of Cedar Falls, IA, Lonnie (Mary Jo) Mallon of Janesville, IA, Renee (Bruce) Watson of Atlantic, IA, Jimmy (Dita) Mallon of Sumner, IA, Deric Mallon of Omaha, NE, and Eric Mallon of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren, Chad and Jason Mallon, Andrew and Katie Mallon, Tiffany (Kevin) Houser, Chris Watson, Amanda Mallon, and Kyle Mallon; and his great-grandchildren, Valerie Watson and Lacey, Logan, Samantha and Morgan Houser.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Georgia Mallon.
Per Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
