Obituary for
Mardelle M Maley (Christensen)
Mardelle M. Maley, 82, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Heritage House.
Mardelle Mae Christensen was born on February 5, 1935, in rural Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Walter Howard and Marie Dorthea (Juhler) Christensen. She attended school in Wiota graduating from Wiota High School in 1954. On February 12, 1956, she married Donald Walter and on March 21, 1987, Robert Maley.
When Mardelle wasn't working and loving life on the farm; she was out and about with friends or volunteering wherever help was needed, always on the go. Even after moving to the Heritage House she was hard to catch; if you wanted to see her you better make an appointment! Mardelle often ventured back west for a "Marne Burger." Her nieces and nephews will always remember time spent at Don and Mardelle's during the summer which often included trips to town for supper at the Pine's or bowling and pizza.
Mardelle was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. She was an avid bowler and was on a league at both the Hawkeye and Super Bowl. Mardelle played for many years with the Marne Women's Softball team. She was also active in the Marne Rural Red Hats and Does. Mardelle loved to travel, and some of her most memorable trips were to Hawaii and Branson every year to see the Christmas lights. In her quieter moments she enjoyed researching genealogy.
Mardelle is survived by her sisters, Mildred Klemish of Anita and Maxine Lambertsen of Atlantic; stepchildren, Bobby (Becky) Maley of Atlantic and Karen Stuart of Minnesota; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sondra Sue Christensen of Elk Horn, Gary Wagner of Des Moines, Henry (Mardell) Walter of Elk Horn, Annabelle (Gail) Lang of Atlantic, Carolyn (Jack) Johnson of Atlantic, and Emy (Jack) Barringer of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Christensen; husbands, Donald Walter in 1984 and Robert Maley in 2001; brothers, Mervin (Sondra Lee) Christensen and Milford Christensen; sister, Margaret Wagner; brothers-in-law, Eugene Klemish, Vernon Lambertsen, and Paul Walter; and nephew, Lynn Lambertsen.
