Glen Everett Major
Glen Everett Major, 61, of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home.The son of Reverend Everett R. and Neleta Ruth (Anderson) Major, Glenn was born April 9, 1940, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Growing up he lived in Royal Oak and Chelsea, Michigan, and many communities in Iowa, including Anamosa, Ottumwa , Rock Rapids, Kingsley, Jesup and Onawa as his father was the Methodist Minister. He graduated from Kingsley High School and Morningside College in Sioux City. On June 8, 1963, Glenn was united in marriage to Nancy Gates in Sioux City. Following marriage they lived in Sioux City, Sac City and moved to Atlantic in 1982. Glenn had been director of Sac County and Cass County Department of Human Services and his latest position was with Child Protective Services. He retired in 1998. When was a member of the first United Methodist Church in Atlantic, the Masonic Lodge, and he was on the board of Matthew's House.Surviving are his wife, Nancy G. Major of Atlantic; two daughters, Heather J. Major of North liberty, Iowa and Dawn M. Major of Dallas, Texas; one son, John E. Major and his wife, Marcia, of Correctionville, Iowa; one grandson, Erik J. Major of Correctionville; two sisters, Nora Raye Bieglera and her husband, Richard, of Spencer and Neleta Kay Dunkleburger and her husband, David, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; and number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Major.Funeral InformationA committal service for Glenn was held Saturday, May 5, 2001, at 10:30 AM at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic with the Reverend Charles J. Downing officiating.
