Obituary for Iona E. Maier

Iona Maier, 82, formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center in West Campus, Davenport, Iowa. Mrs. Maier was born May 4, 1923 in rural Gutherie County, Iowa to Christian and Lydia (Andersen) Petersen. Iona was married to Leo Edward Maier October 21, 1943 in Kimballton, Iowa. The couple especially enjoyed their family, and Iona took great pride in her granddaughters. She worked as the manager of a Wonder Bread Hostess Cake Thrift Store in Atlantic, Iowa for 20 years. She was a member of Atlantic Chapter BPO Does, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, and Danish Sisterhood Lodge #3 in Davenport. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Crain and her husband, Henry of Davenport; granddaughters, Jennifer Crain of San Diego, California, Kristin Andersen and her husband, Joel Andersen of Thornton, Colorado, and Bethany Crain of Stanwood, Iowa; her sister, Vivian Lane of Atlantic Iowa; and brothers, Emery Petersen and his wife, Mabel Petersen of Elk Horn, Iowa, and O. Dean Petersen and his wife, LaVonne of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Leonard Maier of Mapleton, Iowa; aunts, Viola Groves and Mayme Rasmussen, both of Harlan, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
