Maggie Morehouse

Maggie Morehouse, 62, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at her home.

Margaret Anne was born on November 5, 1962, in Corning, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Wesley and Phyllis Geraldine (Kingery) Long. She grew up in Corning and Red Oak, graduating from Red Oak High School. Following graduation, she attended a Christian college in Missouri and this is where she met and married her first husband, who blessed her with four children. Maggie later enrolled in the nursing program at Southwestern Community College in Creston and received her LPN certification. Maggie remained in Creston and worked at the nursing home and hospital before becoming a traveling nurse, North Carolina and Montana being her favorite assignments. This was a perfect fit for her as she loved to travel and see new things.

While at a local meeting she asked a gentleman to go out for coffee after and the rest is history. Maggie was united in marriage to Ricky Morehouse on July 15, 1995, in Miami, Oklahoma. Together they enjoyed gardening and canning their harvest that included peppers, green beans, tomatoes and zucchini, cooking and playing Donkey Kong and other games on their Super Nintendo. Every year on Rick’s birthday she made him her delicious homemade cheesecake with her secret recipe which she kept hidden.

Maggie enjoyed doing crafts of all types, but board painting and making tulle wreaths were what she made the most. She played countless hours of Mahjong and Spades on her phone, even setting up online tournaments from time to time. Maggie’s favorite color was purple and her favorite flower was lilacs. She treasured time with her grandkids and they did with her as well, always asking when the next Grammy Camp or Grammy Night was. A few of the activities they enjoyed while together were watching movies and eating popcorn, singing and dancing, and making crafts. She made every time they were together special, but Easter was by far her favorite holiday with them, going so far as to plant jelly beans with them in the yard for them later to discover that Dum-Dums had grown.

Maggie was a God loving woman, strong in her faith! Her warming hugs, caring spirit, sense of humor, goofiness, and even her outspokenness will be deeply missed. When Rick was asked what he will miss the most he said, “EVERYTHING!” She is survived by her husband, Ricky Morehouse; children, Ricky (Robin) Morehouse II, Brian (Ashley) Bloomfield, Sean (Amanda) Bloomfield and Danielle (Kokou) Sanvee; six grandchildren, Reggie, Ean, Dylon, Avery, Aubrey and Leah; brother, Tom Long; sister, Tessa (Duane) Hardee; brother-in-law, Pat Townsend; sister-in-law, Patty Long; and many extended family and friends.

She is preceded by her parents, Robert and Phyllis Long; daughter, Corinna Morehouse; grandson, Ricky Morehouse III; siblings, Kathy (Bud) Briggs, Jeri (Doc Derry) Walters, Roberta Townsend, Phillip “Buck” Long and Jim Long; and sister-in-law, Linda Long.
