Max Milton Luke
Max Milton Luke, age 76, a resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2003, at Cass County Memorial Hospital.Max was born to Roy and Winifred (Hoffman) Luke on October 5, 1927 in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up in Atlantic and on November 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Kathleen "Kathy" Alice Rattenborg. Max worked as a general laborer and a farm hand, a drag line operator for Gould and Son and a heavy equipment operator for Cass County. He also worked for Hal Simonton Plumbing, American Buildings and was a roofer for Turk Roofing and McDermott Roofing before being employed at Imperial Clevite until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a sergeant in the Army until his discharge on August 12, 1947. Max was a member of the American Legion and had attended the First Church of Christ in Lewis, Iowa.He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Luke and Debra Luke Weihs, both of Atlantic; three grandchildren, Shawn Luke Miller of Atlantic, Rachel Kathleen Weihs of Lincoln, NE and Brian Paul Weihs of Atlantic; two brothers, Harley and wife Marilyn Luke of Anita, IA and Charles "Chud" and wife Sandy Luke of Atlantic; four sisters-in-law, Doris Andersen of Colorado, Wylma Layland of Audubon, IA, Virginia Sheets of California and Janice Fancher of Audubon, IA; along with many nieces and nephews.Max was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Winifred Luke; his wife Kathleen "Kathy"; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Soren and Julia Rattenborg; two brothers, Morris and Bob Luke; three sisters, Jane Potter, Ruth Mahoney and Connie Runyon and two half brothers, Vernon Luke and Norma Jones; four brothers-in-law, Darwin Potter, Bob Mahony, Bob Layland and Connor Sheets and a nephew Mike Layland.Funeral InformationServices for Max will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at 1:30 PM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Pastor Kale Kesterson officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery with the Atlantic Veteran's Color Guard presending military rites.
