LuElla Lassen

LuElla Dorothy Lassen, 95, of Griswold, formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa.

LuElla was born to James and Ella (Schaaf) Leslie on January 5, 1928, in Cass County, Iowa.  She attended Atlantic Public Schools and during her high school years she worked at Vaughn’s Beauty Salon and F.W. Woolworth Store in Atlantic.  On October 17, 1948, LuElla was united in marriage to William R. “Bill” Lassen at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.  Two daughters were born to this union. 

LuElla was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church for over 65 years.  She enjoyed helping with Sunday School and Bible School.  She made quilt blocks with family members and made birthday cakes for her daughters and grandchildren.  LuElla loved to read books and go dancing with her husband.  They were members of several dance clubs. 

LuElla is survived by her sister, Colleen Sunderman of Atlantic; daughter, Vicki R. Kyle of Council Bluffs; grandson, Marcus H. (Kimi) McKinnon of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughter, Lindsay Berry of Lakewood, CO; and great-grandchildren, Kaylyn R. McKinnon, Karlee and Cayden Fletcher all of Cameron, MO and Matthew, Willow, and Skyla McKinnon all of Philadelphia, PA. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Terri Sue Berry; grandson, Jeremy L. McKinnon; and great-grandson, Michael W. McKinnon.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Atlantic Cemetery, with Reverend Dr. Rachelle McCalla of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating.
