Obituary for
Muriel Rhinehart De Lucia
Muriel
Rhinehart De Lucia, age 92, passed away on August 20, 2011, at Friendship
Village
in Dublin. She was born on a farm northwest of Cumberland,
Iowa,
on August 15, 1919,
the daughter of Maude and Charles Rhinehart.
When she was 6 months old her family moved to Cumberland
where her father operated a dairy. She
graduated from Cumberland
High School
and completed her B.S. degree at Iowa
State
University
in Home Economics Education. On August 24, 1940,
she married Frank De Lucia. While her
husband was in the Navy, Muriel taught school in Cumberland,
Iowa. Upon his return they lived in Atlantic
and Cumberland,
where they taught school and her husband was Superintendent. Frank and Muriel then built and operated the Iris
Motel
and Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant,
Iowa,
for 15 years. In 1967 they moved to Ormond
Beach, Florida,
where they operated Surfview Realty, Antiques,
and Nauticals, with daughter Ruth and son-in-law Lance Lenart. Muriel enjoyed collecting antiques,
especially art glass. Muriel was an
active member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and served as a
sponsor for the Hummel Club of Volusia
County. In 1996 she retired to Friendship Village of
Dublin, Ohio. She was preceded in death
by her parents, husband, Frank, and daughter, Ruth. Survivors include one son, Frank (Shirley) of
Columbus,
Ohio,
2 grandchildren, Frank (Marla) De Lucia of Bel Air, Maryland
and Elizabeth (Ryan) Daly, of Columbus,
Ohio,
and 2 great-grandchildren, Frank and Samuel De Lucia. A memorial service will
be held at a later date at Friendship Village of Dublin, OH. Graveside services
will be held at Atlantic
Cemetery,
Atlantic,
Iowa,
on Saturday, August 27, at 10:30 am. She was a member of the Baptist
Church
in Cumberland,
Iowa. Interment will be in the Atlantic
Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers contributions in Muriel’s name can be made to the charity of
