LaBerta
Livingston, a long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa,
passed away at the Cass County
Memorial Hospital
on Thursday, August 11, 2011,
at the age of 85.
The
daughter of Percy O. and Lillian E. (Krauel) Miles, LaBerta Ruth was born January 29, 1926 in Denison,
Iowa.
She became an orphan at the age of five and was placed under state
care. She attended school in the Denison
area for 10 ½ years. She began working
for board and room at the age of 12, being placed out in private homes. She came to Atlantic
in March of 1944 and was employed at the nurses’ home on Oak
Street and then began work at the Atlantic
Hospital on East
5th Street. Her marriage to Darrell Glenn Livingston took
place May 18, 1946 in Denison,
Iowa.
They became proud parents of four sons, Dana Lee, Glenn Gay, Ricky Lee
and Wayne Alan. She later worked at Ben Franklin and Robinson hardware in Atlantic. Her hobbies were collecting Barbie dolls and
painting ceramics. Her favorite things
were her flowers and her family. She
will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving
LaBerta are three sons, Dana and wife MarGe of Lewis, Glenn and wife Jane of
Atlantic and Wayne and wife Diana of Lewis; seven grandchildren; thirteen great
grandchildren; one sister, Lorry Renes; two brothers-in-law, Bob Renes and Doug
Culver and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell on December 8, 1997, a
son Ricky Lee; her parents; three brothers, Leonard, LeRoy and Leo Miles and
two sisters, Leota Segebart and Kay Culver.
There
will be open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home Saturday morning 8:00 to 12:00, Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00,
Monday from 8:00 to 5:30 and Tuesday morning. Services for LaBerta will be held Tuesday
morning, August 16, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic
at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Lanette
Plambeck, from the First United Methodist Church,
officiating. Committal will be in the Atlantic
Cemetery. The Roland Funeral Home is caring for
LeBerta’s family and her arrangements.
