JAMES LILIENTHALJames Lilienthal, 55, of Oakland and formerly of north of Atlantic passed away at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 following a battle with cancer.James Lynn Lilienthal was born the son of Carl H. and Doris June Lilienthal on June 5, 1954. He attended school in Atlantic and graduated with the High School Class of 1972. In 1977, he moved to the Kansas City, MO area where he worked as a machinist building diesel locomotives.In 1979 he was married to Linda Norman and a son Michael James Lilienthal was born to them on July 31, 1980 in Kansas City, MO. They moved back to rural Atlantic in 1983.Later he was married to Deborah Prorok in 1990. They were blessed with a son Nathan Lynn Lilienthal on January 1, 1991. James spent most of his life in and around Atlantic. He was dedicated to his work as a machinist and welder. He had become an excellent welder and continued that line of work until he began his fight with cancer in Nov. 2009.James always had an interest in American Indian culture. This hobby of hunting, gathering and studying Indian Artifacts grew to be a passion which led James to obtaining an astonishing collection that brought him much joy and pride.He is survived by his sons, Michael Lilienthal and wife Tonya of Atlantic, Nathan Lilienthal of Lincoln, NE, and Colton Lilienthal and his mother Jessica of Atlantic; a brother Carl F. Lilienthal and wife Cynthia of Atlantic; a brother-in-law William Richter of Boone, IA; a girlfriend Donna Wolfe of Oakland, IA; many nieces and nephews; and lots of friends.He was preceded in death by his parents Carl H. and June Lilienthal and a sister Ellen Richter of Boone, IA. Memorials may be designated to the James Lilienthal Family for the purpose of taking care of final services. Any donations that may exceed this amount will be given to American Cancer Society.Funeral Information His funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, January 28 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Dennis Meyer, of Saint Paul"s Lutheran Church, will officiate. There will be open visitation daily from 8:00 to 5:00 until Wednesday evening when James" family will meet with relatives and friends from 4:00 to 6:00.
