Jeanette Isabelle Lechner Jeanette Isabelle Lechner, a longtime resident of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center on November 2, 2009 at the age of 87. Jeanette was born on June 16, 1922 to John and Caroline(Euken) Behrends in rural Wiota, Iowa. She attended schools in Cumberland and Wiota graduating from the Wiota High School with the class of 1939. She was baptized and confirmed into faith at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. On Janurary 19, 1941, Jeanette was united in marriage to Virgil Carl Lechner at the late Ed G. Euken home in Franklin Township south of Norway Center. She worked as a clerk at Penneys in Atlantic, Iowa and in many homes helping with home duties. Jeanette lived in the Wiota and Cumberland areas until moving to the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in the summer of 2008. Jeanette was involved in the Fun For All Club in her neighborhood, the Cumberland and Massena Saddle Clubs, the L.W.M.L. at her church and the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed music, cooking, game shows, soap operas and conversation with her family and friends. The door was always open and the coffee on. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Her pride and joy was being a mother and homemaker. Jeanette remembers her trips to the Iowa State Fair and visiting family at Cedar Falls, IA. She was always smiling, never complained. and was known for her strong faith. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Rogers and husband James of Wiota, IA and a son, Michael J. Lechner of Cumberland, IA; one granddaughter, Bethany J. Rogers of Wiota, IA; a brother, Bruno Behrends of Atlantic, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Emma L. Riggs of Atlantic, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil; her mother-in-law, Ada South; her grandson, Matthew Rogers; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Harold Wickey; brother and sister-in-law; Earl and Pauline Behrends; sister-in-law, Fern Behrends, father-in-law, Frank Lechner; step-father-in-law Frank South; brother and sister-in-law George and Goldie Welton; brothers-in-law Max Query and Bill Riggs.Funeral Information Open visitation for Jeanette will be held daily 8 - 5 at the Roland Funeral Home with family visitation on Thursday evening, November 5, from 5:00 to 7:00. Funeral services for her will be held on Friday, November 6, at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Ted Weishaupt officiating. Committal will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Roland Funeral Home is caring for Jeanette's family and her arrangements.
