Elsie Leach

Elsie Arlene Leach, 97, longtime resident of rural Atlantic, passed on Monday, October 30th, 2006 at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa.The daughter of William D. and Caroline E. (Richardson) Baxter, she was born March 29, 1909, northeast of Lewis. Elsie graduated from Lewis High School in 1926. She lived on the family farm until her marriage to T. Robert Leach, September 23, 1933, in Audubon. The couple enjoyed raising their sons on the farm south of Atlantic. They celebrated 62 years together, before Bob's death. Elsie spent her life as a homemaker, loved gardening; especially her flowers, and was a longtime member of the Bear Grove Priscilla Club. She moved from Atlantic to Risen Son Christian Village in 1995.Surviving are her two sons Robert W. Leach and his wife Diane "Dee" of Council Bluffs, James L. Leach and his wife Joan of Desert Hills, Arizona, and Barbara Leach of Washington, D. C.; six grandchildren - James J. Leach and Pam of Crittenden, Kentucky, Robert M. Leach and Emily Chang of Chamblee, Georgia, Michelle D. Redman and Harry of Yankton, South Dakota, Mark R. Leach and Marta of Shakopee, Minnesota, Maylon V. Leach of Council Bluffs, Glenn A. Hardey and Cindy of Bailey, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren - Trey A. Redman, Tristan W. Redman, Gabriel M. Leach, James R. Leach, Tonya Morris, Justin Morris, Allan P. Hardey, Ily Rea Hardey; and a number of nieces and nephews.Elsie was preceded in death by her husband T. Robert in 1995; her parents William and Caroline Baxter; and her brother Carlos Baxter.The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, November 4, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Rev. Tony Paff of St. John's United Church of Christ of Council Bluffs will be officiating.
