Obituary for Ila G. Larson

Ila Larson, 90, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at her home.

Ila Georgia was born on March 18, 1927, in Avoca, Iowa, the daughter of George Grove and Ida (Wennekamp) Barker. She attended Avoca Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1946. During high school and in the years to follow, she worked at Grulke Drug Store in Avoca.

On December 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Darrel Roy Larson at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa, where she was also baptized and confirmed. The couple lived in Avoca until moving to Atlantic in June of 1954.

Ila and Darrel wintered in Texas for many years and looked forward to attending the various activities that were held in the rec room. The family enjoyed time together camping at area parks for many years. Ila loved spending time with her family and friends and would rarely turn down an opportunity to go out to eat or take a drive around town.

Ila is survived by her children, Terry Jean (Robert) Carey and Leroy Robert (Lisa) Larson all of Atlantic; grandchildren, Chrissy (Kris) Bussey, Stephanie (Steven) Davidson all of Ute, IA, Jason (Rachel) Larson of Atlantic, and Justin (Margo) Larson of Marne, IA; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Kymberlee Schroder, Landon and Ella May Larson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Meroy Larson of Atlantic, IA, Robert “Cork” (Lavonne) Larson of Manchester, IA, Larry Larson of Palm Desert, CA, Barb Bain of Council Bluffs, IA, Helen Larson of Moss Bluffs, LA, and Judy Larson of Missouri Valley, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ida Barker; husband, Darrel Larson; infant brother, Robert George Barker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ronald Larson, Wayne Larson, Faye Larson, Dan Bain, Ned (Gladys) Larson and Dean Larson.

Open visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday, September 28th and from 8:00 a.m. until time of family visitation on Friday, September 29th at Roland Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home, with Pastor Ben Winford of New Life Church officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa
