Dean Larson

DEAN ROBERT LARSON Dean Larson, 85, longtime resident of Atlantic, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Dean was born the son of Chris A. and Irene (Meggers) Larson on June 8, 1923 in Avoca, Iowa. He grew up attending school in Avoca. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII from September 14, 1943 until November 30, 1945. On January 13, 1946, Dean was wed to Meroy Virginia (Gillett)in Atlantic. Dean was a self-employed paint contractor. He and his brother operated Larson Brothers Painting from 1946 to 1986. He and his brother and sons worked painting and papering many homes and businesses. He enjoyed his gardening and woodworking hobbies and built the family home that they lived in for nearly 50 years. He is survived by his wife Meroy Larson of Atlantic, IA; daughters, Candice Petry and husband Randy of Council Bluffs, IA, Susan Randel and husband Larry of Atlantic, IA, Virginia Keefhaver of Edgerton, MO, Lisa Shaver and husband Tim of Winter Park, FL; sons, Robert Larson and wife Sandi of Council Bluffs, IA and Richard Larson and wife Diane of Atlantic, IA; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert "Cork&" Larson and wife LaVonne of Hopkinton, IA, Ned Larson of Sioux City, IA, Barb Bain and husband Dan of Council Bluffs, IA and Larry Larson and friend Donna of Palm Desert, CA; sisters-in-law Helen Larson of Moss Bluff, LA, Judy Larson of Missouri Valley, IA and Ila Larson of Atlantic, IA. He is preceded in death by his mother Irene who died February 8, 1973 and his father Chris who died July 9, 1983; three brothers, Ronald, Wayne and Darrel Larson; and sisters-in-law Faye Larson, Gladys Larson and Julie Gillett; and son-in-law Bryan Keefhaver.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation and Dean"s family will meet with friends Tuesday evening, from 6:30 to 7:30 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. His funeral will be held at 10:00 Wednesday morning, September 17 at Rolands. Pastor Nancy Jensen of Atlantic United Church of Christ will officiate.
