Obituary for
Jeanette Larsen
Jeanette Larsen, 94, a long-time resident of Atlantic, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Heritage House in Atlantic.
Jeanette was born in Chicago to Frank and Louise Gurskey, on February 25, 1923, one of seven children; Adolph, Clarence, Florence, Bernice, Frank, and Earl.
While a clerk for Woolworths in Chicago she met stock boy Henry Larsen. They married in 1943. Upon Henry’s return from Germany after the war they moved to DeKalb, Illinois where she began raising her family.
Jeanette and Henry moved to Atlantic in 1955, when they purchased the Ben Franklin store. In 1962, they bought their family home on Roosevelt Drive where she resided until 2012. Her “home away from home” every summer for 18 years was with her son Jim in Anchorage, Alaska. Her final home was in Pleasant Acres at Heritage House.
Jeanette and Henry were blessed with five children, all whom graduated from Atlantic High School; Jim, Keith, Stan, David and Marlette. She was blessed by marriage with three extra daughters and an extra son; Nancy, Vicki, Barbara and Greg. She has six grandchildren; Andy, Juliann, Jennifer, Jason, Danielle and Briana plus four great-grandchildren.
Jeanette had an unwavering faith in God and was proud of her Lutheran parochial school experience as a child. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where many happy times and friendships were made. Jeanette loved to be involved in the community and was especially proud to support the Nishna Valley Family YMCA because as a child in Chicago she was a beneficiary of a free YMCA membership.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; sons, Stan and David; brothers, Adolph and Clarence; sisters, Florence and Bernice; and many friends.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating. A luncheon will be held prior to the funeral, beginning at 12:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall at the church.
The family wishes to thank all her friends, deceased and living, who have so generously given their time and care to assist their mother over the years.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Church or the Nishna Valley Family YMCA.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for Jeanette’s family and her arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
