Kenneth Lappe Sr

Kenneth Lappe, Sr., 74, of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017, at his home.

Kenneth Eugene was born on December 29, 1942, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Gregory L. and Gladys D. (Stangl) Lappe. He was raised in the Exira area, and graduated from Exira High School in 1961. On August 22, 1970, he married Peggy Saunders in Cherokee, Iowa. Kenneth farmed for many years in the Exira and Brayton areas, and kept honey bees for 27 years.

He enjoyed fixing and tinkering with about anything; if it wasn't working when he started it was by the time he was done. Kenneth frequented local sales and auctions. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, tending to his vegetable garden, and caring for various wild animals. In high school, he learned to play trumpet and continued playing through the years, even teaching his children. Kenneth was quite the prankster and loved to tease.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Peggy Lappe; children, Linda Kelly of Sioux City, IA, Kenneth Lappe, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Peru, IA, Cheryl Leighton and her husband, Brent of Griswold, IA, and Christine Stufflebeam and her husband, Justin of Atlantic; grandchildren, Shawn Kelly, Joann Kelly, Josephine Kelly, and Alaina Kelly, Taylor Lappe, Kenneth Lappe III, Heidi Lappe, Alan Lappe, Leah Lappe, Anthony Lappe, Joseph Sheeder, Lillian Stufflebeam, Nia Stufflebeam, and Xavier Stufflebeam; great-granddaughter, Adele Sempek; sisters, Karen Riha and Sharon (Dennis) Witt and his father, Gregory Lappe.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Lappe and granddaughter, Catherine Marie Lappe.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home, with Pastor Ken Davidson of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
