CELEBRATION OF LIFEGladys Dorothy Lappe Gladys Dorothy Lappe was born October 29, 1923, the daughter of William Stangl and Frances (Sibble) Stangl. She passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa. Gladys was born in Templeton, Iowa and attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton. On August 30, 1940, she was married to Gregory L. Lappe and they just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple lived in Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois before the move back to a farm near Guthrie Center, Iowa for two years. Then in 1945, they moved to a farm east of Exira, Iowa, where they have resided the past 65 years. She was active in the neighborhood Garden Club and was a member of the St. John"s Catholic Church in Adair, Iowa. She was also active in several projects as she loved gardening, baking, sewing and homemaking. Gladys was involved in the farmer"s markets for over 25 years along with her husband Gregory. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances (Sibble) Stangl; brothers, Donald J. Stangl and William Stangl who died an infant; two sisters, Alita Bauer and Ione Lappe . Survivors include husband, Gregory L. Lappe of Exira; one son, Kenneth Lappe Sr. and wife Peggy; two daughters, Karen K. Riha and Sharon L. Witt and husband Dennis, all of Atlantic; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister Irma Tunick of Perry, IA; one brother-in-law, Wilbur Lappe of Des Moines, IA; three sisters-in-law, Ila Lappe of Indianola, IA, Alice Stangl of Manning, IA and Grace Lappe of Vail, IA; and many other relatives and friends.Funeral Information There will be open visitation Thursday & Friday at the Roland Funeral Home from 8:00 â 5:30. On Saturday the hours are from 8:00 â 4:00 and Sunday 12:00 noon until time of the Rosary. There will be a Rosary on Sunday evening, October 3, at 6:00 followed by a family visitation from 6:30 until 8:00. Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys will be Monday, October 4, at 10:30 A.M. in the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery. Roland Funeral Services are caring for Glady"s family and the arrangements.
