Obituary for John F. Lang

John Franklin Lang, age 81, passed away at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa on Monday, November 29, 2004. John was born March 29, 1923 to John Franklin and Marie Jacobina (Ortgies) Lang in Atlantic where he lived his entire life with the exception of one year that he spent in Richmond, California. John graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1941 and on May 4, 1952 he was married to Mary Lou Schmidt. John owned and operated Lang"s Atlantic Square Deal Oil Company for many years. He also managed Odins restaurant for one year and later was an independent real estate appraiser. John was a charter member of the Nishna Valley Chordsmen, a member of B.P.O.E. and the Lion"s Club. John was a lifelong member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and a choir member. He belonged to the Junior and Senior Chamber of Commerce and when he attended the University of Nebraska, he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Petersen and husband Arlo of Alton, IA and Ann Lear and husband Greg of Spencer, IA; one son Richard Lang and wife Roberta of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Shaunna Halvorson and husband Ryan, Jabrel Dykstra and husband Ryan, Daniel Marek, Cole Lang, Lindsey Edie and husband Joseph, Tyler Schaaf and Zachary Lear; six great grandchildren, Hannah Halvorson, John Halvorson, Elise Halvorson, Jacob Halvorson, Ayden Dykstra and Madelyn Edie; sisters-in-law, Betty Lang of Phoenix, AZ, Jeanette Lang of Santa Barbara, CA, Jean Swift and husband Charles of Nixa, MO, Dorothy Thomas of Springfield, MO, Rosemary Wilson of Nixa, MO; loving companion, Glee Morrow of Atlantic and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Lou; two brothers, George Lang and Kenneth Lang; one sister, Dorothy Hansen and husband Carlton.
