Obituary for Harriet Landon

Pauline "Harriett" (Hollen) Landon, 88, passed away Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born June 13, 1918 to George Bertrand and Sarah Esther (Byers) Hollen, in Massena, Cass County, Iowa. On June 13, 1936, Harriett was married to Ronald William Landon. Their union was blessed with 4 daughters, Nila Alene, Shiela Joyce, Lucia Kareen and Mary Esther ~ the loves of their lives.Harriett graduated from Atlantic High School in 1936. She lived most of her life in the Massena, Cumberland area, moving to Atlantic in November 1995. Harriett was a member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church and UMW, Christian Women's Club and Nine Patches Quilt Club. She was a camp counselor and UMYF leader. In recent years, she and her classmates met for a reunion every month. She also enjoyed going to a weekly Bible study. Harriett received the Governor's award for her volunteer work with Southwest Eight with the Cumberland Senior Center. She served on the "Friends of Library" board and other volunteer positions. She was one of the first women to sell Tupperware. Harriett loved her family. She was a kind, generous and loving person and touched many hearts. She spent many hours in her later years quilting and doing crafts. She was blessed by sharing the same birthday as one of her best friend"s great-granddaughter, Molly Pelzer. They always exchanged birthday cards.
