Lana Tanner

Lana Tanner, 77, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Heritage House in Atlantic.  Lana Rae was born on October 5, 1945, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Rollie and Laveta Helen (Scheef) Hoffman in Atlantic, Iowa.  She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1963. 

On August 24, 1963, she was united in marriage to Brooke Tanner in Atlantic, Iowa.  She was a stay at home Mom while the boys were growing up.  Lana and Donnis Tanner later partnered to start a woman’s clothing store called Tanners Fashions. 

Brooke and Lana traveled many miles every winter to the Caribbean, Hawaii and their favorite, Anguilla.  No one could understand why you would want to go to a tiny, remote, uncommercialized island for 23 years UNTIL, their friends and family went with them…SAND, SUN, & NON-STOP FUN!

Since Lana’s decision on November 8^th, we think . . . no, we know we got our Wife, Mom, Gram and Friend back for 2 months.  She reopened up her heart, spirit and home to everyone she loved.

By the way . . . the BEST deviled eggs EVER!

Lana is survived by her husband of 59 years, Brooke Tanner; son, Todd (Michelle) Tanner; grandsons, Jake (Tierney) Tanner and children, John Scott and Jack Scott and Nate Tanner; step-grandsons, Gary (Chelsie) Van Ert and children, Cambry, Caia and Coben and Schope (Casandra) Van Ert and children, Becca, Haley, Joseph, and Leo; sister, Sandy Smith; special nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Al (Odette) Tanner; and sister-in-law, Joyce (Norm) Dell.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott at age 15 in 1982; step-great-grandson, Camden Van Ert; brother, Lance Sortedahl; and brother-in-law, Rusty Smith.

Open visitation, with no family present and no public viewing, will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Friday, January 27^th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.  A private family graveside service will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery. 

To celebrate Lana’s life, relatives and friends are welcomed to stop and visit between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29^th, at the Atlantic Golf & Country Club.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Cass County Grounds Committee, Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund and the Cass County Relay for Life.
