Obituary for
Ardyce J. Knudsen
Ardyce Knudsen, 96, a life time resident of Shelby and Cass Counties, passed away early Saturday, February 13, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.
Ardyce Joan Larsen was born March 15, 1919, to John F. and Lillie K. Larsen on her parents' farm outside of Elk Horn, Iowa, and was baptized as a child. She attended rural school near Elk Horn and after she finished her education, she worked on the family farm for a short time. She then moved to Atlantic where she worked as a domestic. She married Richard George Knudsen on June 9, 1940, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, and their union was blessed with two children. Joyfully working together to raise their family, run a business, and participate in the community, they enjoyed a close and happy marriage for 57 years, until his passing. She was a homemaker at heart, a wonderful cook and baker, and in quieter moments, delighted in the opportunity to sew or knit.
Ardyce was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, active in the Ladies' Circles. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Atlantic Golf and Country Club. She was a bowler in the Hawkeye Leagues. Always a very competitive person in sports, she loved to golf and bowl.
Ardyce is survived by her son Richard of Brentwood, Tennessee; daughter Mary Jo of Merced, California; granddaughters, Amy (Daniel) Edwards of Atlanta, Georgia; Ashley (Robert) Abraham and Courtney (Andrew) Scanga both of Brentwood, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, William and Dalton Edwards of Atlanta, Georgia; Lilly and Rex Abraham and Sam, Gabe, and Drew Scanga all of Brentwood, Tennessee; and one brother, Edwin Larsen of Elk Horn, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; her sisters, Erma Roberts, Ina Sien, and Myrtis Pederson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, with Pastor Paul Reynolds officiating. Visitation with the family will held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. A lunch will immediately follow the service, prior to going to the cemetery.
